2022 Deep 6 Beer Style: BELGIAN TRIPEL

With Champagne Yeast & Trappist Candi Sugar

Brewed in honour of the Catholic Trappist order which originated in the Cistercian monastery of La Trappe, France in the 17th Century. The Trappists, like many other religious orders, originally brewed beer to feed the community, in a perspective of self-sufficiency. In the last 300 years, there were at least nine Trappist breweries in France, six in Belgium, two in the Netherlands, one in Germany, one in Austria, one in Bosnia and possibly other countries.

A BELGIAN TRIPEL WITH A TWIST

Deep Six - Limited Release Aged-Under-Ice Series

This unique Belgian Tripel is finished with Champagne yeast on traditional Trappist Candi Sugar. Brewed with the addition of New Zealand fruit-forward hops that intermingle with the classic Belgian ester-heavy sensory creating a complex, smooth beer with a slightly dry finish – we consider this to be the champagne of Lake of the Woods beers! ABV: 8.5%, SRM: 5, IBU: 24

LAGERED UNDER ICE? AT THE BOTTOM OF THE LAKE?

That's right! This beer is lagered in icy-darkness at the bottom of Lake of the Woods.

Ice – the solid state of the most powerful substance in existence on our planet. Liquid or solid, Water is an indomitable force of absolute awesomeness – Lake of the Woods Brewing Company uniquely puts both Ice and Water together with its innovative Deep Six Lagered-Under-Ice Series.

6 MONTHS DOWN BELOW. SMOOTH & COOL.

Lagering this beer only makes it better... so keep a few in your cellar for a special occasion in 2024... or 2025.

Every fall prior to lake freeze-up, LOWBrewCo ’deep sixes’ a few thousand bottles of small batch, handcrafted beer to the bottom of Lake of the Woods. Placed below the ice line and secured in anchored cages, the beer receives the benefit of (at a minimum six month) lagering in near freezing – four degrees Celsius – watery lake current. This results in really cool beer.
